Xindao Augmented Reality Virtual Storefront

Xindao is a well estabilished supplier of promotional gifts. With many offices all over the planet they are a medium large player in this industry.

Xindao can frequently be found with a stand at the many fairs centered around promotional gifts. Their sales reps struggle to keep up with all the interest from the visitors and thus we’ve come up with a tool to relieve them a bit.

My company Appwards has assisted Xindao by developing an Augmented Reality Virtual Storefront. A cabinet with the top selling products on display plus a center column made up of images, combined with an iPad running Layar makes for this virtual store where people can see videos on how to use the product and directly order some promotional items to help them with their decision whether to buy in bulk.

Dead Drops

A layer that was built for Science Fiction writer Bruce Sterling. It uses a database of locations where Memory Sticks have been embedded in walls and other objects.

Bruce will show up on your screen, pointing you the way to the nearest dead drop.

Looks great. What about a simple “see who is using this app around you” app/layer for my site?

      Hi Thomas,

      Thanks for your kind words.
Regarding your question: If you’d like to do such a thing you need to make sure that your app publishes it’s whereabouts to some webservice. This will most likely not be a very accurate GPS coordinate but it should be very close to reality.
Once you have a database with up to date usage info it’s easy to make a simple Geo based layer that shows where the users are.

Howvever, I’d go for a solution that is NOT Layar because the Layar Player SDK currently is available for iOS only. Nowadays Wikitude might be a better choice.

      Does this answer your question?
